Hatsugama(初釜) – first tea ceremony of the year.

Stand: Shindaisu (真台子)
Brazier: Chosen-buro (朝鮮風炉)
Kettle: Shinnarigama (真形釜)
Kaigu set: Tobi Seiji (飛青瓷)
Water Ladle: Sashitoshi Hishaku ( 柄杓)
Thick tea container: Chaire – Furuseto, Fuki Chomei
Tea scoop: Chashaku (茶杓) – Honsui, Kyodo made
Tea bowl set: Red Raku (赤楽). Lined with gold and silver.
Thin tea container: Natsume – Horai (宝来)
Bamboo Whisk: Chasen (茶筌) – unusual type (handle only smoked)

Award Ceremony

Award Ceremony in Consulate-General of Japan, Sydney

On 6 October (Thursday) 2016, the Consul-General of Japan in Sydney Mr Masato Takaoka held a Foreign Minister’s commendation ceremony and reception on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia (NARA Treaty) at his official residence.

Winter Tea Gathering 2016

Date: Sunday 3 July 2016, from 11:00am to 15:30pm
Venue: Maiden Theatre & Moore Room, Royal Botanic Gardens, City

Winter Tea Gathering is Annual Chakai at The Maiden Theatre in The Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. Guests can enjoyed traditional Japanese Sweets and tea while learning about the history of the tea ceremony. There will be two styles of demonstrations available, tatami mat style and table and chair style, giving you the chance to be immersed in the Japanese culture and eat some yummy treats at the same time.

When: Sunday 3 July 2016, from 11:00am to 15:30pm
Where: Maiden Theatre,
The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney Mrs. Macquarie Road, Sydney
Ticket: $25 for two servings of tea and traditonal Japanese sweets.

Sessions are 45 minutes long, and start at 11:00 am, 11:45 am, 12:30 pm, 1:15 pm, 2:00 pm and 2:45 pm
